At the 2000 UN Millennium Summit, 189 heads of state and government agreed to end extreme poverty in the world by 2015. They agreed to do this by achieving eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.
The MDGs are a unique international agreement as they are time-bound, measurable and have the public support of every head of state in the world.
These goals are only achievable if governments live up to their promises and companies, diaspora investors, civil society and emerging entrepreneurs work together to create the jobs and wealth required to help people lift themselves out of poverty.
